Window Blinds and Child Safety

Window Blinds and Child Safety

The introduction of tighter safety standards for window blinds will make them safe for young children.

Internal window blind cords and chains pose a risk to babies, small children and vulnerable people who could injure or even strangle themselves on looped operating cords and chains. Your home should be a place where your children are safe and protected, but there is a hidden danger in many homes.

If you already have blinds fitted in your home there are some practical, simple precautions to help reduce the risk to babies and small children,

  • make sure all cords and chains are always secured and out of reachmake it safe
  • do not place your child’s cot, bed, highchair or playpen near to a window blind
  • do not put sofas, chairs, tables, shelves or bookcases near to a window blind as children love to climb
  • Position furniture a safe distance away from windows to prevent children climbing too close to them
  • Use the safety products to secure them out of reach.

Advice on buying new blinds

  • Is the blind manufactured to the new standard?child safety device
  • Is a warning notice attached?
  • Is a safety solution provided and fitted in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions?
  • Can the supplier demonstrate the product’s safe use?
  • Is documentation relating to the blind’s safe installation, use and maintenance provided?

All blinds now comes with a child safety device (CSD), check that this is installed with the new blind, alternatively look for a blind that does not contain cords or chains or has concealed cords.

These tips should help to protect your child from possible serious harm. You should be aware that all risks cannot be eliminated. Parents and others should always keep window blind cords and chains out of the reach of children and follow the safety instructions.

Why My Emphasis is Always on Customer Satisfaction

Why My Emphasis is Always on Customer Satisfaction

I have always believed that the best way to create value for customers is to ensure all  jobs whether large or small, receive the same level of care and attention. In addition I strive to always go that little bit further than everyone else to ensure my customers receive the very best in service and support.

Here are some of the feedback received from clients

I highly recommend Topps for a fast, efficient and thoroughly professional service. Our three new corded bay window curtain tracks work beautifully and the whole process was painless. Topps works steadily, cleaning up as he goes along and pays great attention to detail. He is also very polite and charming and pleasant to have in your home. Couldn’t be happier with the result! I will definitely use him again when we need new tracks.

Colette –Review left on Net Mums website

Topps is one of the most professional and organised curtain and blind fitters, with a high level of skill and patience for the most complex projects. He achieves every deadline, and every project I’ve employed him for has been completed to the highest finish and speed.

Kate Watson- Kate Watson Interiors Limited

We struggled for weeks to find a professional curtain fitter for our very long curtains, a few came to our place but none of them could do it. Then we found Topps, my wife and i can only praise the quality of his work and his dedication. He’s a real gem. He came a first time to take the measurements and see which tools he would need and then he came to our house, and very efficiently set up our curtains (~4.5m long), he stayed until late in the evening to ensure that the job was perfectly done and that we were satisfied. We would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, high quality curtain fitter.

I would like to thank you for the installations of the tracks. From the various companies I spoke with, you were not only competitively priced but also the most professional. Your workmanship is of a very high standard and I would have no hesitation in recommending you to family and friends.

Jiten Varsani

Thank you very much for all your hard work. Your work was excellent, you carried out everything on time and I will be definitely calling you again for more work in the future.
